Your field. Your festival. Your rules.

A self-catering wedding venue with a field for your marquee

Next door to Hamps Hall and Barn is a private field that’s free for you to use. Put up a marquee, stretch tent or tipi for your wedding breakfast, string up festoon lights and fill it with long tables, then head into the barn when it’s time to dance.

It’s made for festival-style and DIY weddings: bring street-food vans or your favourite caterer, set up your own bar and add lawn games for the afternoon. There’s no corkage and no list of approved suppliers.

Past couples have created some truly magnificent spaces in the field, and the barn dining room, which seats 48, is there if the weather turns.

How it works

How marquee weddings work at Hamps Hall and Barn

  • Reception only: Hamps Hall and Barn doesn’t hold a wedding licence, so you marry at a local church or register office first. The village church is about a 10-minute walk away.
  • Up to 40 guests stay over in 18 bedrooms (6 doubles, 9 twins, 2 triples and a quad)
  • Up to 80 day guests can join you at £25 per person, for 120 guests in total. Day guests leave by midnight.
  • Marquees are welcome in the private field. Let us know at least a month ahead so we can cut the grass, and put it up and take it down within your check-in and check-out times.
  • Music: DJs and bands play inside the barn through our in-house sound system (no external speakers). Acoustic music, like a harpist or string quartet, is welcome outside until 8pm.
  • Self-catering with no corkage, so you choose your own caterer, bar, cake maker, florist and photographer
  • Not allowed: fireworks, sky lanterns and balloons in the field
  • Need more beds? Our converted barn Merrymeet, nearby, sleeps another 16
